Bill Jackson

Bill Jackson holds a Classics degree and a Diploma in Social Studies from Trinity College, Dublin University. After a year as President of the International Student Movement for the United Nations, he worked for nine years at Oxfam, first in charge of the Education Department; then successively as Personal Assistant to the Director, desk Secretary for West and Equatorial Africa, Field Director for West Africa based on Lomé, Togo, and International Secretary. Three years followed as Director of Information Services at Keele University.

For fifteen years in Dublin (until 1989) he was founding Chief Executive of the state-sponsored Agency for Personal Service Overseas (APSO). He then became Chief of External Relations for the UN Volunteers programme, based in Geneva and later Bonn.

Retiring in 1999, Bill has undertaken consultancy work for APSO, Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke of Denmark, UNV (in particular on the International Year of Volunteers 2001), and UNDP. Following four years as a Trustee, he served as chair from 2003 to 2007.
