Anne Garbutt
INTRAC Fellow
Anne has worked in development since 1983, after a career in the National Health Service. Her first overseas posting was with VSO in Nepal where she trained traditional birth attendants and primary health care workers. Having decided that she wanted to pursue a career in development, she was successful in gaining Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) sponsorship to do a Masters in Community Health at Liverpool University through their Associate Professional Officers Scheme (APOS).
The next 10 years were spent overseas managing programmes and projects in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ghana, working with non-government organisations, Ministries of Health and official agencies. The focus of Anne’s work in Bangladesh with ODA was capacity building 61 NGOs - and this was the start of her interest in working with civil society.
Since joining INTRAC in 1997, Anne has taken the lead in developing an NGO strengthening programme in Central Asia, delivering on consultancies in organisational development, monitoring and evaluation and capacity building. She has also developed and delivered on many training programmes. She has worked across Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Australia, North Africa, Europe, UK, Ireland and more recently the Middle East.
