Faith dimension of capacity

Why faith and capacity?

This Praxis theme aims to explore the organisational dimension of faith in faith-based organisations (FBOs), look at the changing roles and influence of FBOs in civil society (and the aid industry) and monitor what others are learning about the broader issues of religion and development at community level.

Faith has always had an intense, but uneasy relationship with development. Although FBOs have been at the forefront of service delivery and social movements, they have been largely disregarded by donors until recently. But currently many official donors are seeking to move from estrangement to engagement. This developing relationship requires careful consideration, both by donors and by FBOs.

Many years experience with FBOs has given INTRAC some insight into the particular advantages and challenges facing FBOs in development. We are interested in how a faith identity permeates an organisation’s external programmes, its relationships with other stakeholders and also internal organisational behaviour.

Collaboration and learning group

INTRAC has undertaken training and consultancy work with a wide diversity of FBOs. We are looking for opportunities to work with organisations that are already undertaking work in faith and organisational capacity, with a view to setting up a learning group of practitioners.
