Janice Giffen

Principal Consultant

Janice Giffen joined INTRAC in 1998 and is involved in both research and consultancy activities. She both conducts pieces of research relating to the role of civil society in poverty reduction and policy dialogue, and is involved in working with such groups themselves in strengtheningJanice Giffen their capacities for meaningful engagement. She is also one of INTRAC’s M&E specialists, conducting evaluations, advising on the development of systems, and contributing to the training courses.

After an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Economics, she undertook research in methods of economic planning in the (then) Soviet Union, before moving on to working in development economics, first in the Department for Project and Development Planning at Bradford University and then with multi-lateral donors on a consultancy basis. Before joining INTRAC she spent four years with ActionAid in West Africa, setting up the Research, Evaluation and Monitoring Unit, and then worked with Oxfam GB in the Strategic Planning and Evaluation team.
