INTRAC’s evolving programme of work in the Middle East centres around supporting the development of civil society in the region, strengthening the capacity of NGOs, and improving the space for dialogue between civil society and governments.

Our recent and ongoing work in the region includes:Iraqi Al-Mortaqa Foundation - Training of Trainers 2005

  • Convening an International Conference on Civil Society and Community Development in association with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Development.
  • Facilitating G8 Civil Society Dialogue on Human Rights.
  • Undertaking a programme of work to strengthen civil society and build NGO capacity in Oman in conjunction with the UK Charity Commission.
  • Developing and facilitating a Training of Trainers Programme for Iraqis on NGO Management and Social Development in partnership with Iraqi Al Mortaqa Foundation and ZENID.
  • Commissioned research into capacity building in Iran as part of our Praxis Learning Programme - see Praxis Paper 8.
  • Capacity building support to Palestinian and Iranian NGOs, and local and international NGOs in Iraq.
  • A Middle East and North Africa NGO summer school, held in Lebanon.
