Rowan Popplewell

Research Officer

Rowan joined INTRAC in August 2011. She works as a Research Officer for INTRAC's Research Department, primarily on INTRAC's NGO Research Programme. Her current research interests include:

  • Action Research
  • Research in NGOs
  • Trends in monitoring and evaluation
  • The impact of political and economic crises on CSOs

Prior to joining INTRAC, Rowan worked at the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) as a Policy Officer where she was responsible for research, policy and advocacy work on a range of development issues including conflict and the private sector.

Most recently, Rowan completed an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where she focussed on NGOs and civil society in conflict-affected and post-conflict areas. Rowan also holds a BA (Hons.) in Development Studies and Politics from SOAS, University of London. 

Rowan's areas of geographical expertise include Central and Eastern Africa and South Asia.
