Celebrating a successful pilot phase for the PRISM human rights tool

This month, we have reached an important milestone in developing PRISM, a tool designed to help human rights organisations reflect on how their work contributes to the shared goal of all rights for all people. We have now worked with five organisations to pilot the PRISM tool, marking a significant step forward in testing and refining it

Following an initial phase of development in 2024, including expert-practitioner reviews and a pilot with two organisations, we have now worked with three additional human rights organisations to use the PRISM tool as part of their strategic planning. This process has been invaluable, allowing us to work with human rights organisations using different languages, operating in different human rights contexts, and at different points in their own organisational journeys.

We’re deeply grateful to the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) in Egypt, the Women’s Legal Centre (WLCE) in South Africa, and the Human Rights Program of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in the United States for engaging so thoughtfully in this process. Each team brought unique perspectives that have helped us to understand how PRISM can work in different contexts. We are also grateful for the fantastic team of facilitators who delivered the workshops. .

The pilots have generated a huge amount of learning, which we are in the process of digesting. They highlight the value of thinking beyond the boundaries of a single organization, and reflecting on how it can contribute to the wider movement for human rights.  They highlight how valuable it is for a single organisation to think beyond its organisational boundaries to consider how it can contribute to the wider movement for human rights. Over the coming months, we will be reviewing and reflecting on these insights and refining PRISM based on what we’ve learned. We look forward to sharing our findings and a finalized version of the tool in early 2026.
