This Praxis Note explores the capacitybuilding process that took place between Concern Worldwide Haiti and a local Haitian organisation, AAPLAG. It argues that the power of capacity building can easily be undermined by a lack of understanding of the difference between ‘facilitating’ and ‘doing’. In contrast, an appreciative and consistent approach with high levels of facilitation skills can contribute substantially to the sustainability of local organisations.
