Between May 2016 and March 2017 INTRAC worked with CBM West Africa to strengthen its organisational and technical capacity in Results-based Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). In June 2016, two INTRAC trainers designed and facilitated a 6-day training in Lome for 30 of CBM’s regionally and country-based programme managers, staff and partners in West Africa. The training was delivered in English with simultaneous translation into French. Training content was based on a pre-training needs assessment and drew on examples of M&E practice in CBM. Content included:

  • CBM training participants with Alison and AnneProject cycle management and integration of planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning
  • Development and use of logframes
  • Development of useful indicators for tracking progress
  • Approaches to assessing contribution to change at outcomes and impact level
  • Managing an effective evaluation process
  • Learning from and using M&E information

The trainers returned for a follow-on workshop with the participants in early 2017 where they discussed progress made in M&E, shared examples of good practice, helped address any practical challenges participants were facing and identified opportunities with participants and CBM’s regional team for how best to support each other to continue to improve M&E in future.
