With over 20 years’ experience of working in international development, Kanwal Ahluwalia is passionate about women’s and girls’ rights and gender equality. She has worked for a range of organisations, including Womankind Worldwide, Childhope UK, Plan UK, the Overseas Development Institute and Girl Effect. Working as a consultant her recent clients include Saferworld, Internews, BBC Media Action, the International Land Coalition, Valid Evaluations and UNICEF. She has country experience of Albania, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa and South Sudan.
Kanwal’s thematic areas of expertise include VAWG, women’s political participation, girls’ education, girls’ in governance processes, social norms including in relation to media work. She has skills in facilitating programme design, implementation and learning; proposal development; participatory gender equality reviews; gender equality strategy development and implementation; capacity building on women’s and girls’ rights and gender equality and on gender mainstreaming; research and writing; development of guidance notes and toolkits for development practitioners and organisational development including strategic planning and fundraising planning.
